National Board Inservice Commission Examination Information

The National Board now offers the Inservice Commission examination "On Demand." The National Board has partnered with Applied Measurement Professionals (AMP) to administer a computer based examination.” The examination may be administered at any of over 180 test center locations in the US and Canada and an additional 40 locations worldwide. The examination may generally be taken within 2-3 days following sign-up. For more information, please visit  AMP’s Web site (Note: The category in Step 1 is “Other”)

The focus of the Inservice Commission examination reflects inservice situations related to installation, inservice and repairs and alterations. The examination consists of 85 questions and will be administered in 1 day, not the 1½ days previously required. NB-331-I, Body of Knowledge (Inservice), serves as a study guide and provides the inspector candidate with specific areas of knowledge that will be included on the Inservice Commission Examination. NB-410, Boiler Feedwater Guidelines,  has been developed to assist an inspector in recognizing normal and abnormal boiler feedwater conditions and is included by reference in the body of knowledge.

National Board member jurisdictions may still provide the examination on the first Wednesday in March, June, September and December of each year. National Board New Construction Commission Information

An applicant for a National Board New Construction Commission must attend the National Board “A” Course and receive a passing grade on the examination. The schedule for “A” courses may be found on the Training pages. NB-331-NC, Body of Knowledge (New Construction), serves as a study guide and provides the inspector candidate with specific areas of knowledge that will be included on the New Construction Commission Examination.
