85th National Board/ASME General Meeting Theme Announced

SAFETY: Standing Between You and Disaster has been designated the theme for the 85th National Board/ASME General Meeting, May 9 – 13,  2016, at the Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.

“To many, ‘safety’ is just a word that symbolizes generic caution,” explains National Board Executive Director David A. Douin. “In reality it is more than a word.

“Sometimes safety is used interchangeably with the terms wellbeing, protection, security, care, and even welfare. But seldom do we hear or see these words employed in a cautionary context. ‘Wellbeing First’ and ‘Security First’ just don’t carry the same urgency as ‘Safety First,’” he notes.

Mr. Douin adds that safety is a mindset and a product of personal dedication. “It is an industry that employs thousands upon thousands of professionals. It is the symbolic shield that gives us comfort and confidence in knowing those professionals are working to secure our general welfare.

“Safety is more than just a word,” the executive director reemphasizes. “And it does stand between you and disaster!”

Additional information on the 85th National Board/ASME General Meeting will be forthcoming in the winter BULLETIN.
