National Board Remembers James B. Harlan

The National Board is sad to announce former Delaware member James “Jim” B. Harlan passed away on Saturday, April 30.

Mr. Harlan served as a nuclear reactor operator in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1968, onboard numerous submarines and the USS Enterprise. He began his civilian career employed as a boiler and safety inspector at various Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, insurance companies, including Chubb & Son, Commercial Union, and Home Insurance Co.

From 1980-1992, he served as senior deputy boiler inspector for the state of Maryland. He then held the position of senior deputy boiler inspector for the state of Delaware before he was appointed the state’s acting director – senior deputy boiler inspector. Mr. Harlan retired from the state of Delaware in October 2010.

Mr. Harlan will be interred at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Georgetown, Delaware. A ceremony for him will be held at a later date. For more information, click here.
