Joel T. Amato Announced as General Session Speaker

The National Board announces Joel T. Amato, Chief Boiler Inspector for the state of Minnesota and Chairman of the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) Historical Boiler Subgroup, will address the 86th General Meeting May 8, 2017, in Anchorage, Alaska. His presentation is entitled, “National Board Inspection Code (NBIC): Tools for Historical Boilers.”

Mr. Amato has been a member of the National Board for 17 years. His career began in the United States Navy where he served as a boiler technician, petty officer second class. Following his military service, he gained eight years’ boiler and gas turbine operating experience working in California for St. Mary’s Medical Center and Lever Brothers Corporation, and then for Stroh’s Brewery in St. Paul, Minnesota. Next, he worked as a boiler inspection for Kemper Insurance and The Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company. In 1999, he became chief inspector for Minnesota and currently resides over the inspection of 75,000 boilers and pressure vessels, 35,000 licensed engineers, 245 historical boilers, and 105 boats.

An active member of the National Board, Amato presently sits as first vice chairman on the Board of Trustees. His involvement with the NBIC includes chairman of the Historical Boiler Subgroup (2014 – present), member of the NBIC Subcommittee and Subgroup for Repairs and Alterations (2014 – present), and member of the NBIC Main Committee (2014 – present). In addition, Mr. Amato is chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee (2015 – present) and is a member of the Committee on Qualifications (2012 – present).
