The Main Committee Meeting attracted a capacity crowd on January 15.
The National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) Committee Meeting, held January 12-15 at the Hyatt Centric French Quarter in New Orleans, concluded the third of the four development cycles for the 2027 edition.
More than 220 members of the boiler and pressure vessel industry gathered in person and virtually to discuss over 110 open business items. Fourteen committees met during the week:
- NR, Historical Boilers, and Interpretations Task Group
- Part 2 & 3 Joint Task Group
- Installation, Inspection, Repairs & Alteratios, and Pressure Relief Devices Subgroups
- Installation, Inspection, Repairs & Alterations, and Pressure Relief Devices Subcommittees
- NBIC Chairs Committee
- NBIC Main Committee
In a busy, productive week, the committees:
- Approved 24 code change requests
- Reviewed and closed nine items
- Approved eight new interpretations
The eight new interpretations (25-01 to 25-08), along with all other NBIC interpretations, can be found on the NBIC Interpretations page at nbbi.org.
Six committee members were recognized and received awards for their years of service. The following members received awards:
- Main Committee: Craig Hopkins (30 years) and Mike Richards (25 years)
- Subcommittee Repairs & Alterations: Linn Moedinger (10 years)
- Subcommittee Pressure Relief Devices: Daniel Marek (10 years)
- Subgroup Pressure Relief Devices: Jay Simms (5 years)
- Task Group Historical Boilers: Kevin Anderson (5 years)
NBBI appreciates the dedicated service of these members and all those who participate on the various NBIC committees.

NBBI staff also presented a new NBBI Committee Code of Conduct to the committees. This code of conduct was formally established in response to a set of best practices discussed by the American National Standards Institute at recent standards development seminars. This new code of conduct applies to all NBBI meetings and is available under the NBIC tab at nbbi.org.
Additionally, Mike Carlson (Washington's chief boiler inspector) was voted in as a member of the Main Committee.
