Boiler, Pressure Vessel Inspector Openings

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Public Safety and Occupational Safety and Health, Mechanical Inspection Bureau of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Compliance is in the process of interviewing to fill eight (8) field inspector positions.

In this position, the individual hired will be responsible for conducting in-service inspections of boilers, pressure vessels and refrigeration systems in the State of New Jersey. Under the supervision of the Chief, this position requires the person selected to ensure that the mechanical integrity of boiler plants, pressure vessels and refrigeration systems is maintained by performing the essential safety inspections. Proper performance in this job requires the individual to ensure equipment is installed, maintained, repaired and operated in accordance with the agency enforcement of the ASME, National Board Inspection Codes and other standards adopted by reference.

The position in New Jersey is classified as a Construction Code Inspector 1 (CCI-1), BPVR (specific only to boiler, pressure vessel, refrigeration plants). A National Board commission is preferred, however is not mandatory for this position. The mandate for this position requires a candidate to have at least six (6) years of experience as a stationary engineer in the maintenance and operation of high-pressure boilers, or as a boiler maker, or as an inspector for an insurance company specializing in the inspection of boilers, and licensed to do business in the state.  Licensure for this position shall require the applicant to demonstrate competence by successful completion of a Certificate of Competency examination.

The Civil Service Commission Salary range for this position is: $72,428.58 – $83,359.14.
