Corina Ana Corlaci and Claire Yi Lin Hu Named Scholarship Winners
Each year, The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) offers scholarships to students who meet eligibility standards, including being accepted to or currently enrolled full-time in a trade school, technical college, or university in the United States or Canada and majoring in mechanical, manufacturing, electrical, industrial, welding, or chemical engineering, or other closely related engineering fields. To apply, students must be a child, stepchild, grandchild, or great-grandchild of a National Board Commissioned Inspector or an NBBI employee, whether past or present, living or deceased.
In 2026, NBBI awarded $25,000 in scholarships to two recipients out of six applicants.
The 2026 NBBI Technical Scholarship recipients are:
Corina Ana Corlaci is a sophomore studying Mechanical Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University, where she is building toward a career in mechanical design, system integrity, and public safety, with the long-term goal of earning her Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation. During her time at William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute in Toronto, Corina demonstrated both leadership and initiative by launching a peer tutoring program and participating in a variety of athletic teams.
Corina “is as driven a student as she is bright,” said Michael Quan, an instructor at William Lyon Mackenzie CI and one of her nominators. “Her thirst for knowledge is matched by her drive for success. Corina is a true professional, and I believe she will exceed her potential in the field of mechanical engineering.”
Corina is the daughter of National Board Commissioned Inspector Sorin Corlaci.
Claire Yi Lin Hu will be a senior at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, majoring in manufacturing engineering. She has earned an A-minus average and has been named to the Dean’s List for the past two years.
Claire has completed internships over the last two years with Elander Inspections and Corwest Fabrications. Corwest has indicated its intent to offer her full-time employment following her anticipated graduation in May 2027. She also plans to pursue her Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
“Claire consistently distinguishes herself as one of our program’s top students,” said Casey Keulen, associate professor of teaching in the Department of Materials Engineering and one of her nominators. “She possesses a strong combination of meticulous organization and sharp problem-solving skills. She is well-liked by her peers and works effectively as part of a team.”
Claire is the daughter of National Board Commissioned Inspector Bing Hu.
