National Board Dedicates New
Inspection Training Center

The National Board dedicated its new Inspection Training Center during a ceremony on October 8 in Columbus, Ohio. Performing the ceremonial ribbing cutting were Guest Speaker former US Congressman and Fox News contributor John Kasich; National Board Assistant Executive Director – Administrative Dick Allison; Board Chairman Bob Aben; Manager of Training Kimberly Miller; and National Board Assistant Executive Director – Technical George Bynog.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, National Board members, staff, and guests retired to the Inspection Training Room for a luncheon and program. Mr. Allison welcomed the audience and honored those who played a significant role in the building’s completion.

Mr. Kasich spoke to the room of more than 175 attendees, challenging the audience to hold true to their values and remain dedicated to safety. Addressing several areas of life, he brought the National Board to the spotlight, saying, “In this organization, there is no room for error.”

Located next door to the National Board Training and Conference Center, the newest National Board building has been developed to allow students a more comprehensive hands-on experience in the discipline of pressure equipment inspection. Mr. Kasich continued, saying people need to “realize their purpose and responsibility” as he described the importance of the Inspection Training Center. The new building will help new students take on their responsibilities in the boiler and pressure vessel industry, earning the commission or qualifications they have rightly worked toward.

The 20,000-square-foot center will feature ample space for students to experience working on and inspecting actual pressure equipment, including select internal components. Highlighting the work space will be internal side views of a sectioned boiler and pressure vessel revealing all functioning parts.

The Inspection Training Center will complement the organization’s Training and Conference Center, where classroom instruction is now featured. The new facility will accommodate approximately 100 students and significantly increase the 250 capacity at the Training and Conference Center.
