Review Team Leaders

The Review Team Leader must either be an employee of the jurisdiction, or alternatively, the jurisdiction may request the joint review to be performed by the National Board with individuals certified by the National Board.
- Valve Repair Organizations: Repair organizations holding or applying for a National Board Certificate of Authorization to use the National Board VR stamp must have and demonstrate a quality control system that will ensure all NBIC requirements will be met. Before a Certificate of Authorization is issued by the National Board, the repair organization’s facility and operations are subject to a review by a representative certified by the National Board.
For jurisdictions without a National Board member, and for all international joint reviews, the Review Team Leader will be provided by ASME. For jurisdictions with a National Board member, the review may be performed by a jurisdictional employee, appropriately certified to ASME requirements. Alternatively, the jurisdiction may request the joint review be performed by the National Board with individuals certified to ASME requirements.
The National Board is recognized by ASME as an ASME-designated organization to provide training and certification for Review Team Leaders to perform reviews for manufacturers.
- Valve Manufacturers or Assemblers: Organizations holding or applying for an ASME Certificate of Authorization for use of the valve stamps (such as the V or UV) must have and demonstrate a quality control system that will ensure that all the ASME requirements will be met. Before a certificate is issued by ASME, the organization’s facility and operations are subject to a review by an ASME designee. National Board representatives, certified to ASME requirements, are considered ASME designees.
Many individuals (including Review Team Leaders and National Board representatives) are certified by both National Board and ASME, which allows the most flexibility.
