For over 100 years, the not-for-profit, member-based National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (National Board) has been committed to public safety through its involvement with the stakeholders in the boiler and pressure vessel industry. Membership is composed of chief boiler and pressure vessel inspectors in the US and Canada who enforce pressure equipment laws and regulations in their jurisdictions.

Headquartered on a 16-acre campus in Columbus, Ohio, employees of the National Board support the following programs: an international classroom and online training department; a pressure equipment data report registration system; a comprehensive pressure relief department and state-of-the-art international testing laboratory located in Worthington, Ohio; industry accreditation programs; the maintenance and distribution of its flagship publication, the National Board Inspection Code; publication of the National Board’s technical journal, the BULLETIN; and various other functions. Click HERE to learn more about the National Board and its key functions.

 Lead Programmer Analyst

Lead Programmer Analyst

The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) is seeking an exceptional, self-motivated, and versatile Lead Programmer Analyst. This is a remote position. This person will be responsible to plan, develop, test, and design new or existing software that will enhance productivity and maintain the local area network.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with users in determining their requirements
  • Develops system design documents
  • Develops, updates, and maintains software programs
  • Educates and provides assistance to end-users on software applications
  • Designs input screen displays and reports
  • Evaluates new software and hardware for use by the organization
  • Provides technical direction and assistance to other staff members (Programmer/Analyst; PC Technician)
  • Assists management in developing technical direction for the organization
  • Works with management in meeting the goals of the department

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Associate degree in computer science or equivalent combination of education and experience

EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5) years of programming and systems development in a network environment

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Application development methodology
  • Development languages and software currently in use by the organization, VB, ASP.net, C#, and common browser languages
  • Microsoft Windows Network or other network environments
  • PC and server hardware and software
  • Various user applications, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and Reader, Lotus Notes
  • Internet and Intranet based applications and services, browser based applications
  • Data Base Systems including SQL Server, Domino, and Access

 Senior Staff Engineer / Instructor

Senior Staff Engineer / Instructor

SUMMARY

The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) is seeking an exceptional, self-motivated, and versatile Senior Staff Engineer / Instructor with NBIC and ASME Code experience to work on-site in Columbus, OH. This person will be responsible for instructing students in a classroom setting; developing training materials; working with our curriculum team to develop/author content for online training courses; and providing technical support in areas of expertise as necessary. This candidate will possess the ability to speak clearly and concisely in small group settings and prioritize tasks on multiple projects using excellent time-management skills. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively through written, oral, and visual forms; demonstrate proficient presentation, facilitation and questioning skills; and manage an environment that fosters learning and performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the instructional team to determine technical content to be taught in assigned courses and seminars based on associated bodies of knowledge and industry needs
  • Develop instructional materials (slides, supporting documents, etc.) needed to teach assigned course sessions
  • Provide technical review of training material as assigned, based on experience and code knowledge
  • Work with Assessments Coordinator to write and validate questions used on National Board homework, quizzes, and examinations
  • Author online training content; work with curriculum writers and designers to guide the technical aspects of the online course throughout development until completion
  • Provide technical assistance to National Board members and staff; coordinate with the Technical Department to answer outside technical inquiries
  • Author technical articles for National Board publications upon request
  • Deliver technical presentations at National Board member sponsored programs, as requested
  • Other duties may be assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

EXPERIENCE

  • Eight (8) years of INSERVICE or ASME Construction experience in the boiler and pressure vessel inspection, design, manufacture/fabrication, quality programs, etc.
  • Currently holds, or has previously held, the National Board Inservice Inspector (IS) or Authorized Inspector (AI) Commission
  • Supervisor and/or nuclear experience a plus but not required

KNOWLEDGE OF

  • National Board Inspection Code (NBIC)
  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and other standards recognized by the National Board; codes and standards development; inspection techniques; boiler and pressure vessel design, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair; all design processes; all welding and fabrication methods and principles used in Code construction.
  • Codes and standards applications that have been recognized by the National Board and its member jurisdictions
  • Engineering principles and methods
  • Safety principles and methods
