The National Board Remembers Henry McEwen
The National Board is deeply saddened to learn of the November 22 passing of former NBBI employee and Mississippi Chief Inspector Henry McEwen Jr. Mr. McEwen was 73.
McEwen served as Mississippi chief inspector for 25 years before joining the National Board as a senior staff engineer in 2007.
As chief with the Department of Health, he managed seven employees and oversaw projects including the computerization of inspection data reporting, restructuring the invoicing system, and implementing annual training for inspectors.
McEwen worked as steam plant engineer and also as boiler and machinery inspector for Hartford Steam Boiler Insurance Company before joining the Mississippi Department of Health in 1979. In addition, he was a member of the Arkansas National Guard from 1964 to 1970 as a hospital corpsman.
A graduate of LaSalle University with a bachelor of science in engineering and a master of science in engineering management, Mr. McEwen held National Board Commission No. 9121 with “A” and “B” endorsements.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa McEwen Stephens (Michael); grandchildren, Jared, Sarah Cook, and Hampton; brothers, John McEwen (Glenda) and Grover McEwen (Sharon); sister, Donna Hale (Bill); and special friend, Bonnie McEwen.
