Key Violations of Burner Management Safety Controls Featured in Fall BULLETIN

The top three burner management safety control violations as reported by National Board member jurisdictions is the cover story of the fall 2015 issue of the National Board BULLETIN.

The burner management violations addressed in the article are 1) electrical power disconnects missing or not functioning, 2) emergency shutdown switches missing or not functioning, and 3) improper installation of fuel train assemblies. These three violations totaled 7,286 out of 8,587 reported violations or 85% of all burner management violations reported.

National Board Assistant Executive Director-Technical Chuck Withers discusses variables that contribute to burner management violations, the most common types of violations, and also provides insight into each of the three main violations reported for burner management systems.

This article is part of a continuing series that takes a closer look at specific violations occurring on specific device types as reported by National Board member jurisdictions in the annual Violation Findings Report.

About the Annual Violation Findings Report

The data in the Violation Findings Report captures problem areas and trends related to boiler and pressure vessel operation, installation, maintenance, and repair; and also identifies problems before unsafe conditions occur. This report serves as an important source of documentation for jurisdictional officials, providing statistical data to support the continued funding of inspection programs.

Quarterly reports are posted on the National Board website. The annual report is published in the summer BULLETIN, and the violation tracking series appears in the fall issue.
