NBIC Main Committee chair, July 15, 2021 in Cincinnati, Ohio

George Galanes will serve as chairman of the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) Main Committee, beginning a three-year term.

Galanes, a consulting metallurgical engineer with Diamond Technical Services, was chosen by a unanimous vote of the NBIC Main Committee at its July 15, 2021 meeting.

He replaces Robert “Bob” Wielgoszinski, whose three-year term as chair ended in July.

For the last three years, Galanes served as vice chair of the NBIC Main Committee. Prior to that, he spent nearly 10 years chairing the Part 3, Repairs and Alterations, Subcommittee.

Galanes is a former member of the National Board Advisory Committee, representing the welding industry. A professional engineer, Galanes has spent over 30 years in the power generation industry, involved with conducting failure analysis investigations associated with power generation equipment, and has participated and led root cause analysis investigations of large equipment failures. In 2014, he received the C.O. Myers Safety Medal.

Although his term as chairman is over, Wielgoszinski was appointed at the July meeting to another three-year term on the NBIC Main Committee, representing authorized inspection agencies.

Melissa Wadkinson, chief engineer for The Fulton Companies, was named to a three-year term as NBIC Main Committee vice chair.

Wadkinson previously served as a member of NBIC Main Committee and chairwoman of the Part 1, Installation, Subcommittee.
