I Course Returns; IS Course and VR Seminar Adjusted

The 2024 calendar for the National Board Training Center includes the return of one course and adjustments to a course and a seminar.

Authorized Nuclear Inservice Inspector (I) Course is back on the schedule and will be held Monday-Friday but with shortened days to accommodate those in other time zones. The course is virtual and scheduled for August 26-30 and December 9-13.

The Inservice Inspector Commission (IS) Course is being reduced to eight days from 10. The fundamental item recognition, terminology, and boiler operations and systems sections previously taught the first two days have been removed and is now part of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel (BPV) Fundamentals Seminar. The IS course content is specific to inservice inspection, and students need to understand types of boilers, pressure vessels, and the related items before taking the class.

The course will be Tuesday-Friday the first week and Monday-Thursday the second week. Class dates are March 12-21 (virtual), May 7-16, June 18-27, August 6-15, and October 15-24.

Students enrolling in the IS course are encouraged to attend the BPV Fundamentals Seminar beforehand. As an incentive to do so, students will receive a tuition discount for the seminar once IS course enrollment is confirmed.

The Pressure Relief Valve repair (VR) Seminar has been trimmed from five days to four, Monday-Thursday, with the option of taking the examination through NBBI’s Education Center upon returning home.

Topics and content will not change from previous years. The course will be January 22-25 and April 29-May 2.
